Extreme Engineering
Located in Calgary, Denver, and Ft. Worth, Extreme Engineering is a multi-talented, multi-faceted group of industry experts focused on developing and manufacturing custom MWD and LWD drilling telemetry systems based upon mud-pulse telemetry, electromagnetic telemetry, and acoustic telemetry.
Extreme Engineering also offers as a service MWD and LWD downhole wellbore monitoring systems for oil and gas drilling operators, highlighted by XPulse, the most advanced unmanned wellbore monitoring system on the market.
Extreme Engineering's Corporate Headquarters is composed of approximately 65 staff (fully integrated engineering, manufacturing and field operations) operating out of a 22,000 sq ft facility in Southeast Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Extreme History
Incorporated in 2001, Extreme Engineering is a multi-talented, multi-faceted group of industry experts focused on developing and offering a new suite of downhole telemetry devices.
Formed around a team of industry experts, Extreme Engineering has developed a complete line of wireless telemetry systems based on Mud Pulse telemetry, Electromagnetic telemetry, and Acoustic telemetry.
Extreme is an industry leader in many aspects of engineering, development and manufacturing including:
- Mechanical engineering design
- Electronic engineering design
- Mathematical modeling and analysis
- Full system integration
- Manufacturing procurement.
Extreme Engineering also offers as a service MWD and LWD downhole wellbore monitoring systems for oil and gas drilling operators, highlighted by XPulse, the most advanced unmanned wellbore monitoring system on the market.
Extreme Engineers
Extreme's expertise ranges from mechanical engineering design to electronic engineering design to mathematical modeling and analysis to full system integration and manufacturing procurement.
The Extreme Engineering Team has a very strong industry proven track record in taking a product from concept to commercialization. Our designs are currently being operated in some of the harshest environments all over the world.
Features of Electronic Components utilized in our designs include:
Surface Mount Technology
Low Power Consumption
Analog & Digital Circuitry
Extreme Engineering designs are currently being employed in Surface and Downhole Applications in the oil and gas industry.
Extreme Manufacturing
Extreme's manufacturing team is experienced, highly trained, and fast-paced. Extreme operates out of a 22,000 sq ft facility in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Expansion and increased production capabilities in early 2006 have allowed full-scale manufacturing to take place in Extreme's facilities.
Every tool throughout Extreme's product line is designed, developed and manufactured in-house, reducing costs and setting a new standard of high-quality in the MWD/LWD industry.
With all of our Mechanical designs we strive to incorporate compact and rugged design & packaging. However, our commitment doesn't end with design, all components are submitted to full environmental testing:
All downhole systems are designed and qualified to operate up to 150°C
All downhole systems are designed and qualified to service the harsh shock and vibration characteristics of the drilling environment
Extreme Research & Development
Research and Development at Extreme is recognized internationally for ingenuity and innovation. This successful area of Extreme Engineering is highlighted by the 2003 R&D 100 Award (See Article), given out by R&D Magazine. According to the Chicago Tribune, the award is seen as "The Oscars of Invention".
More than 20 in-house engineering staff make up Extreme Engineering's research and development team covering many disciplines including:
- Electronic
- Electrical
- Digital Signal Processing
- Material Science
- Mechanical
- Software
Extreme Engineering continues to focus on researching better ways to increase telemetry options of drilling tools for harsh environments. Our current commercially available products are:
- Acoustic Telemetry
- Mud-pulse Telemetry (Passive MWD)
- Electromagnetic Telemetry (EM)
- Pressure While Drilling (PWD)
- Gamma Ray (LWD)
Extreme Safety
Extreme Engineering is dedicated to protecting its employees, clients, property, the environment and the public in its daily operations by the enforcement of its Safety Program. Our Safety Program ensures worker competency, consistency in the way critical tasks are performed within the organization and as well promotes better communication throughout the organization.
Extreme's Safety Program ensures everyone from its President to the part time casual workers, shares the same commitment to safety. In today's world a safe workplace is every bit as important as the technology we produce.
Extreme Engineering is actively working towards its Certificate of Recognition status with Enform and hopes to achieve this by early 2007.
Our goals at Extreme Engineering are to achieve an accident free workplace by complying with all government regulatory requirements.
